The Digital Radio Mondiale Consortium says it welcomes the announcement by key Chinese authorities to encourage the adoption of digital audio in domestic cars.
In a recent release, the Consortium says that at a meeting on May 17, China’s National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) recommended further strengthening in-vehicle audio and video radio broadcast reception as an essential component of the country’s basic public services.
According to the Consortium, DRM is seen as a vital part of the infrastructure needed so that the authorities can rapidly and effectively reach the Chinese public with emergency alerts through DRM’s Emergency Warning Functionality EWF. It says that NRTA and MIIT are stressing the need to include radio receivers with DRM and CDR in all domestically produced and imported vehicles sold domestically.
Last year, the Chinese authorities also expressed the intention to accelerate the construction of digital radio broadcasting coverage networks with DRM digital AM broadcasting transmission systems at local transmission stations.
