U.DAB launches largest small-scale DAB multiplex in the U.K.
OSTEND, Belgium — Dutch commercial radio station Qmusic kicked off four new digital channels with a performance by Belgian singer Metejoor on July 8 at its Beach House.
Available via online streaming, the Q-app, Qmusic’s website, Radioplayer.be and smart speaker systems, the new channels cater to past hits, Dutch-language pop and music for summer.
“With our DAB+ and online streaming we want to offer a broad content portfolio. We tailor our channels on how the audience wants to appreciate the digital sensation,” said Michael Dujardin, channel manager for Qmusic.
“With summer vacation coming up, we want to surprise our listeners with these four new digital initiatives.” Dujardin added that the station now has 12 different digital channels.
Q-Nederlandstalig is Qmusic’s response to the increasing popularity of Dutch language pop music, with artists such as Metejoor, Bazart and (Dutch) Gers Pardoel.
Following last year’s success, the temporary channel Q-Summer returned for July and August with the best of summer playlist.
Q-80’s and Q-Top 1000 are nostalgic, with a varied repertoire of hits, from U2 to Ed Sheeran, Whitney Houston and Beyoncé.
According to QMusic, 40% of the 18–54 age bracket listens to online radio. It reports that its digital stations have an audience reach of 100,000 listeners (12+) per week.
Qmusic’s DAB+ offering includes flagship station Qmusic, Qmusic-Nonstop and Q-Foute Radio.
